Participation of a nurse in the provision of specialized care for patients with diabetes mellitus

Therapeutic education is seen as one of the main components of the treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus. One of the main reasons affecting the compensation of the disease and the occurrence of complications of diabetes, leading to early disability of patients, is the inability of patients and their families to manage the disease, which is primarily due to their lack of training. Teaching patients how to manage a chronic disease does not require physician qualification. Engaging nursing staff to implement therapeutic patient education goals is a real step toward improving the quality and accessibility of care for diabetic patients. Hence, nurses’ knowledge of modern approaches to diagnosis and treatment of diabetes mellitus, knowledge of new drugs and new methods of treatment, and psychological characteristics of patients becomes relevant. The provision of diverse theoretical and practical knowledge during the seminar, as well as the analysis of clinical cases, contributes to the improvement of knowledge and the quality of treatment and education of patients with diabetes mellitus.
