Course Description

In the training course, we will analyze the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac shock, the use of VA ECMO during cardiac shock.

Cardiogenic shock (CABG) is a formidable and often fatal complication of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The mortality rate in cardiogenic shock is very high and can reach 50-90%, especially in the absence of timely treatment.

The direct cause of cardiogenic shock is a “dip” in blood pressure and a sharp reduction in tissue perfusion by blood, which causes critical hypoxia – oxygen starvation. By definition, such a hemodynamic catastrophe is associated with acute functional incompetence of the myocardium, more precisely, with insufficient contractile activity of the left ventricle, which pumps blood into the large circulation.

Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO), as a variant of mechanical circulatory support in a critical situation, can help incompensating for oxygen delivery at the time of cardiogenic shock.
